Pariiament passes Anti-Maritime Policy Bill on Monday.

The Lok Sabha has passed Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill by a voice vote on Monday to make special provisions for the confinement of Piracy on high note. The central government has also added imprisonment along with the provision of death penalty for the convicted. 

Anti Maritime Policy

The External affairs Minister S. Jai Shankar said Whoever commits the act of piracy should be punished severely with a fine,imprisonment or even sometimes death sentence too depending on the nature of the circumstances. Various amendments moved by the opposition party members were negated. 

This bill was brought in 2019. and has referred to parliamentary standard committee panel for scrutiny the central government has proposed official amendments in this winter session of the parliament. This bill will apply to all parts of the sea adjacent to and 200 nautical miles beyond the limits of the Exclusive Economic zone of India. Participating, aiding, supporting,organizing, attempting to commit, and directing others to participate in an act of piracy will  be punishable with up to 14 years of imprisonment as according to law.

Special courts will be established for the speedy recovery of these cases.  As according to Anti Maritime Policy bill Piracy means any illegal act of detention,,violence or depredation against aircraft, person, ship  or property. On keeping the observations of the Supreme Court The death penalty was also included in the bill which should happen in the rarest of rare cases. The government has also included the option of life prison as many nations do not apprehend accused to view of the provision of capital punishment.
